An Interview With Mat Demaz (27-11-12)
Interview with Mat Demaz
Renee Smith:
Good see finally catch up with you, man.
Mat Demaz:
Haha, no problem sweetie.
I need this.
I haven't really had the time to make a update video on my YouTube.
Renee Smith:
Haha.
Well, anyway, what's been going on the last few months or should I say, this year?
Mat Demaz:
I've just been going on a bit of a hiatus; trying to get my shit together and put out some decent music for a change.
I've been getting a lot of hate recently for my old songs and that's a wake up call, to be honest.
I've been doing beat production and stuff too for a bit too this year.
Renee Smith:
Ah, true.
How many albums have you been working on this year?
Mat Demaz:
It's hard to say; I have a lot of stuff that is almost finished and a lot of stuff I'm not happy with yet.
Renee Smith:
I guess genius takes time, huh?
Mat Demaz:
Yeah.
Renee Smith:
What elements of your music have you improved so far?
Mat Demaz:
Mainly mixing, vocal delivery, overall quality of the audio itself.
I've been using a program called Reaper 4.21 for a while, since August 29.
I've gotten the hang of it now and my stuff is sounding really fresh.
The music I'm working on is a breath of fresh air for me.
I'm playing around with a bunch of genres trying to find the right volume levels and stuff.
Renee Smith:
How do you like working with others?
Mat Demaz:
I sorta have a team now.
A team of guys that help me out and promote my stuff; it gives my morale a boost and makes me wanna continue music.
It wasn't easy expanding Demaz Team.
Everything started out as high school friends fooling around and now I got some serious musicians and producers on the team.
So, yeah.
Renee Smith:
Cool.
I know you've leaked a few songs this year but are you actually gonna drop an album this year or an EP or single or whatever?
Mat Demaz:
Maybe a single.
Renee Smith:
Hey, that's great.
How do you feel about going to Belize to work with Eedee in 2014?
Mat Demaz:
I'm excited.
I'm working with other people too, though.
I might be touring around Australia with Jeremy Silbert, also known as Jez to do some comedy acts and such.
Jez is actually some guy I met online November 13, 2011 and we started talking a lot around mid-2012
He's a cool guy to work with.
Me and him recorded some skits from July 26 to 28, actually.
I'm probably releasing the skit album in 2013.
Renee Smith:
Sounds like there's a heap of stuff planned, haha.
How's your studio in Brisbane?
Mat Demaz:
To be honest, it's not really that good; I'm thinking about just moving all of the shit into Jason's crib in the city or back to my mum's house in Redcliffe.
Renee Smith:
Do you love going back to Redcliffe to see your mum?
Mat Demaz:
It's really nostalgic.
Ironically, the kids still know who I am even though I graduated from high school in 2006.
How funny.
Renee Smith:
You must of made a huge impact on Redcliffe with your music, haha.
Mat Demaz:
I'm too modest for my own good.
The stuff I do is genius but I act like it's nothing.
Renee Smith:
How do you deal with the hatred the internet dishes out?
Mat Demaz:
I just tend to not read what people say; I know I'm good now and I'm sick of being reminded that my music used to be god awful.
Even though it's no excuse, I had really bad gear when I was a teen to 2011.
I only just got decent stuff in late 2011.
I was always broke and couldn't buy decent stuff.
Renee Smith:
That really sucks.
Does it feel good knowing that your music sounds better now?
Mat Demaz:
Words can't describe how relieved I am.
It feels really good.
The stuff I put on my Soundcloud this year sounds great and I makes me happy.
Renee Smith:
And that's what music is all about, yeah?
Being happy even in times of despair.
Mat Demaz:
Pretty much.
Renee Smith:
What are your plans for the future?
Mat Demaz:
I'm just gonna keep working my ass off and recording songs and I'll eventually get around to dropping albums.
Renee Smith:
Good plan.
I heard you're gonna start playing live again.
Mat Demaz:
Well, I've been playing live since 2005 but not as frequently as I wanna do now.
I wanna start playing in clubs and stuff in Brisbane once I get some decent records out.
Hopefully I can get a booking agent so that I can play gigs like each week or even each day.
Renee Smith:
Sounds great!
Well, I don't really have much more to ask you.
Thanks for talking to me, Matty!
Mat Demaz:
Haha, no problem; I'll talk to you again soon if I've forgotten to talk about something.
Renee Smith:

That was interesting but really short.
I'd like to see an extended version of this.
Maybe edit the OP with some more stuff to read.
