High treble distortion makes it easier to hear when you got loud vocals drowning the guitars out.

It depends what style and brand of pedals you're using too dude..
Try different distortion pedals and amps and try to find your signature sound first.
Then save the preset and try to make the second version of the sig sound...
And then the rest is all simple.

It's really hard to get a good sound with a cheap brand guitar..
That's why it's good to spend a bit of cash for leading brands..Like Dean and Gibson.

Dean is badass..Try to get a 80s model because they have a longer shelf life then the newer models...
